Episode 86 – Eric Bogle

Derek and Kieran are joined by singer-songwriter Eric Bogle. Eric is a Scottish folk musician who emigrated to Australia in 1969. His songs “And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda,” “Leaving Nancy,” have been covered by a growing list of artists, including The Pogues, Mary Black, Donovan, Billy Bragg, and The Dubliners. The Fureys rendition of “No Man’s Land (Green Fields of France)” spent 26 weeks on the Irish music charts, including ten weeks at the top position. We discuss the writing of these classic songs and the inspiration behind them.
